Sound system

I am looking to buy a new 5.1 sound system that i can use for both my pc and my tv but im a novice when it comes to what i need.

As its the time of the sales im hoping that you guys may be able to help me get a good system for a non sound expert. ]

Oh and can you tell me how i would connect to each bit :S

Budget is £250ish

Tv is a sony bravia kdl- 26t3000
PC sound card is - auzen prelude 7.1

I think the best choices will either be a AV receiver system, something like this Yamaha or this Pioneer; or a PC set of speakers like Logitech Z906, or a second hand set of Logitech Z5500.

a AV receiver system will give a lot more functionality, in that you can connect a lot more devices to it. Console, Sky, Blu-ray player, media player, etc. Has HDMI as well which the Logitech speakers do not. The Z906 is expensive at £260, in fact just looking, it seems it's £260 at most places, which really is too much for what you are getting. Either the Yamaha or Pioneer system represents much better value.

i like the look of that yamaha system and i can see how it would connect to the tv, ps3 etc but how would it connect to the pc sound card

Yes, with optical connection.

Surely you will have to move the speakers every time you switch PC/TV unless you use your TV as a monitor? :confused:

Prelude looks like it uses the same connection as a Xonar D2X, RCA coaxial that accepts mini toslink. So you can either get a standard toslink cable and get a mini toslink adaptor, or get a mini toslink to toslink cable.
