Soundbar....5.1?

The surround ones are good but your not going to get a decent surround one for £150. Try multiplying that by 4 then your looking at a decent one. If you want a really good one then multiply that by 7.

Check my post in the other thread in here.

Will check for your other post but I've no intention of spending that amount....

So I'm probably better with a stereo one rather than a cheap 5.1 ?

I have a Samsung F450 soundbar and sub. As much as I appreciate the extra sound boost compared to the TV. I wish I had gone for an AV seperates unit for similar price as minimum. There is not much sound adjusting to be had so it either booms or it doesn't and I lose a lot of voices from films because the bass and/or background noise is so loud compared to voice.

My YSP 1400 was around £150 second hand.

I would try and do the same as me and buy a very good one for cheap second hand.

The YAS 101 is stereo and although amazing compared to built in tv speakers it was missing something. The YSP1400 has speakers in the middle the YAS 101 at the sides.

You really need a soundbar with speakers in the middle as well as the sides like my YSP1400.

You could probably get this for £75

A really good one just sold for £280 though

ideally you want something like that it can be had cheaper on a certain site on clearance

the YSP4300 is the daddy though and is also currently on clearance for a ridiculously cheap £599 bare in mind it's up to £1600 in some places.

Uptake on this high end soundbar market hasn't been great I think they will all soon become EOL and die out and you will be left with the usual from the likes of Sony and Panasonic.

Yamaha soundbars have a clear voice option to boost voice, etc. They also have a univolume option to stop differences between volumes too.

You wouldn't of had the same issues with a Yamaha but again you get whay you pay for I had slight issues with my cheapy YAS 101 but none with the YSP1400 apart from the surround can sometimes sound off which is easily resolved by switching to stereo mode

Whats the sub sitting on? wood? thin carpet? Whats near the sub or nearby? Tried experimenting with test tones and sub placement?

While thats also true, the room is also part of the sound performance.

How many times have people said they heard the speakers sound fantastic in store, got them home and complained how poor they sounded.

Voice boost is a con though. As you're boosting levels to combat the wrong levels as it is. Its like trying to shout louder than louder people and background sound.

That univolume sounds like the dynamic range compression setting. Which most people don't want.

I paid £300 for my kit. It's good kit but there's a lack of audio configuration. There's several modes and options but it's hard to get one that's right and it varies from different sources.

I think if buying soundbars you go big or go 2nd hand. Otherwise plough it in to a proper av set. That's my plan when I finally buy my flat.

possibly the wrong section but thought I'd ask on this thread rather than create a new one....
I'd like to be able to control the volume of the soundbar with the Sky+ remote
it needs to be a small soundbar about 2ft long
there is an SPDIF connector on the monitor that takes the sound from the HDMI input if that's any good?
if not then can run whatever cables to the skybox but need to be about 10m long (using the red/white audio plugs from the skyHD box to speakers just now)

could someone recommend one that can do that?
