I don't have a very good setup for a traditional 5.1 / 7.1 whatever system so I'm looking at getting a soundbar, which will be better than my TVs audio. Does anyone have one and can recommend it ? Needs 2 / 3 HDMI inputs and would prefer a seperate sub.

Cheers

Uh oh what have I wandered into ?
I'm after a nice looking soundbar to sit under my bravia 46" tv with separate sub, pref under £400. Not a 5.1 system

Sorry, just some people have more money than sense imo,if you don't want to be like the regular plumbs,id buy a cheap 5.1 pc speaker kit and buy a converter £78 all in,and better than any overpriced soundbar imo,accepts/converts optical ,3.5 headphone socket, hdmi

Tested on high end Samsung ue32d6100 led tv and works fantastic, but its your choice in what fits your needs ect

See, he doesn't want a 'cheap 5.1 solution' because he doesn't have room for one. He wants opinions on soundbars.

I'd help if I could but I can't so I won't. ;)

A £40 PC speaker set bodged to work with a TV? Costs pennies to make with quality to match. Eww, no.

Best bet is to go and try a soundbar out, say somewhere like Richer Sounds. I think Yamaha still do some.

I'll be sticking with my turn of the century 5.1 system for a few years yet. Sounds just as good as the day I bought it. ;)

There more powerfull than any soundbar,I know I've got a set,but feel free to throw a few hundred pounds away, lol richer sounds

I did. Over ten years ago. Probably spent £400 on the AV amp and a matched speaker package and it's been a cracking system ever since both for 2 channel music and movies. Certainly had my money's worth out of it and never a ounce of trouble.

Quality is far better than any sub/sat system I've heard, let alone a £40 set of PC speakers in plastic cabinets that cost £10 to make.

Power is nothing without control. :D

i doubt that very much,i listened to lots of soundbars before i decided on my current setup and can tell you the el cheapo £40 speakers outperform ones costing £400 plus, ill leave those for plums like you to buy:D

anyway goodluck op

wazza300

Logitech X-530

Left/right: 7.4 watts RMS x 2 (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Center: 15.5 watts RMS (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Rear left/right: 7.4 watts RMS x 2 (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS (into 4 ohms, @ 100 Hz, @ 10% THD)

and thats at 1 kHz, @ 10% THD lol.

I have a Z5500 and wouldn't want to go lower than that.

Do confuse cheap and cheerful pc speakers with HiFi.

Wazza, you obviously can't read. I said to try a soundbar out and buy with the OPs ears. I won't be buying one as I'm very happy with my existing kit.

As for the specs on the Logitechs I think LOL covers that quite nicely.. 100W per channel @ 0.7% THD is more like it.

Who's this? Spend around £300 if you want

Thanks, I have. What that means is that I've got a proper home theatre set-up with an actual receiver, rather than a makeshift system made from a set of budget PC speakers and some kind of cheap converter.

And we're the plums? Uh huh.

Oh boy I seem to have prodded a hornets nest with this one ! I will take the advice and go try one out I think.

I'm fully aware I'm not going to get awesome quality with a soundbar, but Im thinking its still an upgrade from the tv speakers.

I have a cheap pc speaker setup, and well, yes I agree it does sound ok, now I have worked everything out, but it is nowhere near as clear as a proper hifi setup. yes for £20-£60 you can get a lot of noise, but noise is nothing without clarity. a true sound setup you will hear every little detail, hence the price. if you just want BOOM BOOM then cheap pc speakers are fine, if you want actual sound, then spend the cash and get a decent setup.

I have heard a few soundbars and they seem to vary a lot, and what I thought sounded good my mate disliked, and vice versa. its down to personal preference for audio, and don't forget to get them to demonstrate a range of different audio, as some might sound good for action films, but such at music or something.
