Hello. Hoping you guys might be able to provide some advice. I've got a 42" Panasonic TV in my (smallish) living room and the sound is crap as you would expect from a flat screen. I am looking at the following options:

DENON DHTT110
CAMBRIDGE TV2
PANASONIC SCHTE80EB

All are £200 from Richer Sounds. Which one would you pick? Does anybody have experiance of any of these products? Does anyone have any alternative suggestions at the same budget?

Cheers in advance for any help.

Not a similar budget as it's quite a bit cheaper but I can't recommend the Maxell MSXB-252 highly enough to be honest!

There is a higher spec model with a few more features (MXSP-SB3000) if you want them but it's more money and quite a bit larger footprint!

The 252 is fantastic for the price and has HDMI connectivity too!

Cheers StevieP. I'll have a look at those Maxell's. A smaller footprint might be nice as the current TV unit isn't massive. HDMI isn't as much of an issue for me as I don't think I have HDMI ARC on my TV.

I'm ideally looking for something that has a bit of a punchy sound for action movies that is still livable for day-to-day TV.

I was surprised with quite how good it is to be honest - my dad has tried a few different soundbar/soundbase options, some quite a lot more expensive than mine, and none sound as good imo! Good base with still very clear speech etc - not the most customizable unit out there (I think there are only 3 different settings) but has always been fine for me!

He actually got one himself but had issues with "gaps" in his sound and after trying 3 or 4 different units he gave up - bizarre really as mine has been perfect (we even tried it at his house!) - must have been a bad "batch"!?!?!

I never even knew that Maxell still existed to be honest - my last recollection of them was old VHS tapes back in the 80's and 90's!

I'd spend a little more and get something like this.

you don't have to use all the speakers if you don't want to, just use 2.1 or 3.1 if that's what you want.

It'll sound so much better than a sound bar.

This looks like an interesting option. Didn't think I would be able to get anything like that for the price. Only problem is its a little less wife friendly lol. Would take some persuasion. Plus point is that I could switch to 5.1 in the future if I could sort the logistics of the wires but the wire issue is kind of why you look at a sound at in the first place.

You have given something for me to think about though. Cheers :)

I don't. I have the Samsung H450 with a Samsung TV. But, I also have a Panasonic TV in the bedroom and I am looking for a soundbar also for mine. I need one that connects to the TV like the Samsung. Called Samsung connect or something. The soundbar issues a connect request and TV accepts and can control everything from one controller then.

Whats it like? Just ordered one for the bedroom TV.

Started looking at AV receiver options aswell now lol. Really like the look of the Pioneer VSX-529 as it has AirPlay compatibility, but I think I'm going to end up going way over budget once I have included speakers.

This Samsung HW-H450 2.1 isn't bad. Though, I'm shocked that it still isn't as clear and rich as my modified Logitech Z5500.

I do find it unreal at times how the human hearing can easily adjust to poor sound and think it is normal. Then jump to something better and the TV sound is like jumping from mono to stereo.

Was watching RoadHouse 1989 last night on TCM HD even though there was no Dolby soundtrack. Loved how the music sounded, voice and the helicopter drone.

Most times the sound isn't above 10 - 17 for Sky HD and 6 - 10 for Blu-Ray while still being able to hear low speech. Some movie channels for Sky HD required the TV volume into the high 20s/30s for very soft speech. Sometimes early 40s.
