Soundblaster Z and Windows 10 - defaults to 5.1

I know, thread revival but I just ran into this problem with my x570 (my x470 was fine). Seems there is a solution for the time being in SBZ Switcher (3rd party).

Get it from https://sourceforge.net/projects/sbzswitcher/

I've not tried it yet but seems to work for some people and I'll mess around with it later or tomorrow as having to set to Stereo every boot might start get annoying.
If you're wanting to have only stereo inpot without any DSP, why even have Surround enabled in SBX Pro?
And anyway after disabling Surround and other processing in SB Z's control software it doesn't matter if Windows has 5.1 in its speaker configuration.
Stereo input signal will be kept as such.

Thanks I will give this a try

I don't have it enabled but Windows continues to revert back to 5.1 after shutdown. It's a bug seemingly if you read through the comments. With work and Christmas coming, I've not had time to test but this will seemingly fix this problem until there is something official but with how long these cards have been out, I'm not so sure. Worked fine on the x470 but at least there's an option. I'll report back once I've tried it. (I checked in the middle of writing this and again, reverted to 5.1 in Windows sound control panel with surround disabled)

No problem Elrasho and good luck. This thread popped up when I started to search for what was causing this.

I've had this on a ZxR and it comes and goes from driver to driver,

SBZ Switcher is a fix and I have used it for years, set it up correctly and it will work.

I normally was 5.1 but to listen to Amazon HD at full quality I needed Stereo Direct and 192k but windows would boot it to 5.1 and 96k and when I changed back Stereo Direct it would mean changing it from 96hz back to 192k, and odd time it would be set to 5.1 and 192k (impossible on my card) and give me an out of range/unsupported error.

The issue is the Windows Audio CP seem to overrule the soundcards software CP and you can see the onscreen dialogue window pop up and change these settings then close on start-up if you keep a keen eye on your screen
