source engine 2!!!!

I am tired of hearing about Half Life and just want the next one to come out.
It can't be that hard to make a PC game ever 7+ years!

Yeah, i don't get it, valve make a lot of money off of steam now and they must employ a lot of developers yet they only put out a small amount of content except when it comes to tf2 and hats, surely they should be releasing a large game every few years with expansions in between, they've got their engine so creating the levels etc and reusing the artwork can't be that time consuming, i hope they're at least working on something big for hl3 source 2.

You could argue they have with L4D/L4D2 + Portal2 in recent years :)

It's not that hard to make a game in 7 years. Making a game and a new engine that's a worthy successor to HL2 and Source? Maybe not.

As well as that, Valve's hierarchy and development process being quite different to your usual publisher driven, deadline based stuff.

Valve don't want to release it until it meets their own standards, which are super high. I'd rather wait until then and have it be amazing rather than them just release it.

Doesn't even register for me atm, so many other great games on the horizon.. The hype machine annoys me a bit though, especially when it starts building up so early..

OMG EVERYONE HL3 MIGHT BE RELEASED IN THE NEXT 3 YEARS!!1!

So what? Just let me know when its a month away, and I can look at some gameplay footage. Meanwhile I'll be getting excited for Planetside 2, Guild Wars 2, etc. Games that I actually have a realistic chance of playing... sometime this year...

To be fair you could argue that but the issue is valve are a bit odd because they tend not to give gamers what they most want, portal 2 and l4d are good games which valve managed to put out in a reasonable time frame, so what's stopped them releasing episode 3, 4, 5 while also working on source 2 and hl3?

It can be easily be done with their resources yet we mostly get expansions and small stuff (l4d2 is can be considered an expansion), anyway as much as i liked the original hl and thought 2 was good in it's own way i didn't like the vibe and change in story to a dystopian depressing world, i miss black mesa, the labs and scientists. :(

Source 2 is not a new engine it's just modified source that warrants enough "change" to call it "2".

Valve stated they won't be making a new engine from scratch.

And Source is a modification of the Half-Life engine which was a modification of the Quake 1 engine... when the line gets drawn it's a new engine.

I don't think we'll see Half Life 3 till the next gen of console from Sony, Microsoft or who ever else brings one out. There is no way it will be PC exclusive and maybe the current console spec would not do the game justice.

I'll be bloody married with kids by the time the damn sequel comes out. I still have PC magazines that talked about HL1 back when it was just a twinkle in Valves eyes, and everyone expected it to be just 'another FPS'.
