source engine 2!!!!

can we stop these stupid threads? Its one game for crying out loud and every month someone wants to post another bs rumour about it, problem is this week alone we've had what 4 threads on it?
Its pretty pathetic - why dont we just wait an see what happens.

At Valve developers only work on a game if they want to.

Anyway, Source 2 better be a clean slate design despite Sources current modularity. Would like:
  • DirectX 11 only (we need to move forward with the times). Current Steam Hardware Survey shows DX11 users @ 45.85%
  • Dynamic Lighting
  • Support for destructible environments
  • Finally, good modding tools to replace Hammer. Hammer is well known for being a piece of **** compared to other tools

How could there possibly be 45.85% of PC users with DX11 cards? Even my 6850 which is a pretty mid range card from 2010 has DX11.

because in the past 3 years PC gaming has stagnated and less people are bothered about keeping their systems cutting edge (global recession not helping either)

Or perhaps because of the huge success of the steam platform, with more and more people either choosing, or being forced to use it. There are a lot of less serious pc gamers out there.

Fun fact: Valve has 293 employees (2012) and DICE has 280 (2011).

Fun fact. Valve develop the largest digital distribution platform as well as producing and actively supporting many successful franchises, rather than just milking one franchise and nothing else. ;)

To be fair to Valve, they've still released at least one game every year for the last ten years.

I think that Valve does a pretty good job at getting games into customers hands, it's really only Half-life 3 letting us down. Then again I have a feeling that when Half-life 3 is unveiled we are going to be getting a heck of a lot more then a game, more like a revolution.

What do people think of this? It is kind of in line with my theory that Valve and Sony are spearheading a push towards OpenGL and Linux for the next generation of consoles, meaning AAA developers will be producing OpenGL games for consoles and steam linux.
