Southgate named new Boro manager

He has all the right attributes to be a manager the only thing he is lacking is experience. Having said that he has done a lot of work with the youngster along with Cooper in the last few years whilst he is doing his coaching certificates/badges. And he is backed up by a good set of coaches already.

Is definitely a gamble but I trust whatever Gibson decides for the club.

Plus if we sign Douala, Huth and Oguchi Onyewu then we are signing players in position that we desperately need to strengthen.

idiotic decision, i just don't get this, they could have picked a good manager from the championship (or even a promoted one) who actually knows what being a manager is about. You trust Gibson? with the amount of money the club have spent over the years they should have done much better, they've had a string of useless managers and here's another one.

I think it's a good appointment. His pride is unquestionable and he's been one of the best English defenders in recent memory.

Gibson wouldn't put the club at risk, if he thinkgs it's the right appointment I think Boro fans should have faith.

Does seem daft to me, would have been much better getting in an experienced manager. Even an unknown would be better.

I think, tbh, its a case of the board wanting to get the fans on their side by appointing someone they love.

LMA? What do the LMA have to do with it? They've got absolutely no power with regards to who clubs can and cannot appoint. The power lies with the FA.

And as for my trust in Gibson; he has taking us from the brink of extinction to appearing in a UEFA Cup final during his tenure. He has built us a new stadium as well as our first ever major trophy. We have also appeared in numerous other cup finals and had plenty of good cup runs. We are no longer a yo-yo club. On top of this we have a excellent youth set-up which is beginning to bear fruit. so yeah, I think I'm more inclined to have trust in Gibson then some random person posting on a messageboard.

fine, trust him and get relegated with southgate as manager. enjoy. Gibson has loads of money sure no wonder he's done well with the club, but the club could have been so much better now if he appointed good managers, rather than rubbish like robson, mcclaren (finished 14th last season - uefa cup oh wow it's completely useless and hardly much of an achievement to be in the final beating eastern european teams) and southgate who has no experience or qualifications.

seems daft, but im not complaining, if the smoggies want to make fools of themselves, as a geordie supporter, i dont mind

im sure the LMA wont be happy though, as at least Roeder would have got his badges without his tumor incident, wheras southgate hasnt even attempted to get them

Robson wasn't that bad... look at the players he got, FA Cup final and got the team heard.

i am surprised they have given him a five yr contract - would have expected it to be like the stuart pearce situation, a rolling contract or year or two max....

boro is a decent club to manage because they have the player and spending power to really make moves for 4th spot, and not so much expectation. their wages must be so high to attract players tho! when people argue clubs like chelsea (extreme position i know) buy success i do not see how you cannot consider boro to an extent too - although on a lesser scale.

gibson must see something in him
