So I bought a twin pack of the SP120 Performance editions to try in my Arc Midi, and they seem to make a really bad humming noise that is really annoying and so much worse than the GT 1850s.

I have them both hooked up to a fan controller and at any RPM the GT 1850s are quieter and also have a much nicer tone. Idling at 1000 RPM the Corsairs have a definite noise whereas the GTs are almost silent. Will be sticking with them in future ;)

Fire away people :p

I doubt people are going to flame you just for being honest, the SP120's are known to be louder than the GT's and have lower performance at the same RPM (but make up for it by looking awesome), however from the reviews I have seen the wasn't supposed to be that much in it. The noise situation is supposed to be a case of the SP120's not being noticeably louder just more annoying in pitch.

I think it is very much subjective.

I'm not overly impressed of them compared to my stock one on the Antec 920.

The noise is more bare-able, but it doesn't change my temps in a way that makes me think my £25 wouldn't have been spent else where. In fairness, I'd have rather given the cash to a good cause....consumerism gone mad!

I had a pair of S120's (quiet) on my H50 and they wrre great, very queit, very good performance, couldn't complain..

Never Used GT's though, If there that much better may give them a go..

Get 3 for my D14? :)

Had the exact same problem with SP120's so i switched to GT 1850's. Best move i ever made. These fans are so good im going to name my first child Typhoon.

The corsair SP fans are definitely not as good as the Scythe GT fans. But they look lightyears better. Which is the only reason i have them tbh, for the looks : performance ratio i think the SP/AF series win.

Glad so many people agree :)

I bought the SP120s because there were a lot of positive posts about them on here, but maybe it's because they are a newish product and the GTs have been around for donkeys years :p

I was considering some SP120s, but now I think i'll stick with GTs.
Didn't have a problem with the GTs but always on the lookout for something better. Seems these may nto be it though.

I got two of the AF 120' Performance fans as intake on my side doors less than a week ago, there not exactly silent even with the lowest voltage setting, but I liked them and kept them.

So I went and tried 2 of the static SP 120's Performance fans for my closed loop Radiator. These arrived yesterday and I hate them already. Never have I had 2 fans so so loud. And they will only run of the max setting. Don't know if mine are broke or anything. And I don't really see any performance improvement over the 2 generic air flow fans I had on the radiator before.

Have set up a return, will be trying 2 of the slightly expensive Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans that on paper seem to have the best airflow / static pressure to noise ratio I have seen and I have only read good reviews of them.

I bought 4 SP120 Quiet Editions for my case, using 3 at the top of my 700d

I pretty much regret them!, I bought them under the impression they would be quiet, either I'm ridiculously picky about fan noises or people don't actually know what quiet means

The only way I could keep them in my case is hooking them up to a FC and running them at the slowest speed they will go (must be 600-700rpm?) Although obviously now at this speed I could probably shift more air gently blowing into the case myself, sooo pretty useless waste of £40 as far as I'm concerned, shame because they do look the part!

I've replaced the back fan on my Antec 300 with a Noiseblocker BlackSilent Pro Fan PLPS - 120mm PWM - very pleased with how quiet it is.

I use these cheap fans from ArticCooling called f8 f12 and f14, they dont push much air through but run silently at the right speed, which seems to work well with my system.

Been tempted to buy the Corsair fans a few times but every time i saw the price it put me off :) ill stick with my £3 fans.

That's the biggest difference, I love the GTs aswell and don't mind turning them up due to the tone they produce. If only they did 14cm versions then I would replace all the fans in my case with them!

I've tried the Slip Stream 120mm, got one sitting on my floor actually they are really loud with a different tone to the GTs but do push a lot of air particularly as case fans.

Thanks for the warning, was about to buy a set of 2 with the new parts im getting, guess its the GT 1850 or 1450s, looks arnt that important and to be fair the GT's dont look terrible
