That website is wrong and is not an insurance company.
These imaginary insurers for example wouldn't give you a refund if your convictions become over 5 years old midway through the policy. How about if you go from 17 to 18 halfway through the policy? Get an extra year on your licence?
These things are fixed as at the time the policy was taken out and updates at each time a new policy is started (i.e. at renewal) as otherwise it brings a world of hurt to insurance companies on having to give refunds to people with spent convictions etc. Also a claim won't immediately impact your premium as otherwise an insurance company could try and immediately recoup the claim cost and it won't be an insurance contract for 12 months anymore.
Also as snapdragon says above you may lose the ability to driver other vehicles, but that can be done as it isn't to do with insurance of the named object.
