The French Grand Prix is set to return to the F1 calendar at the Paul Ricard circuit, according to a report in L’Equipe.

The race will return to the calendar on alternate years, sharing a slot with the Belgian Grand Prix.

This means Spa-Francorchamps will only feature on the calendar in alternate years.

The French round will return to the calendar in 2013 at Paul Ricard, which last held an F1 race in 1990. The track held 14 world championship races beginning in 1971.

If Sky want to win over the F1 fans, then they should use whatever influence they have to demand Spa remains on the calendar every year. I have no idea what the Paul Ricard circuit is like, but it can't be worse than Magny Cours?

:( Bah. That's a real shame.

I've never seen a race at the Paul Ricard, but the layout just looks like a mass of long straights, DRS snooze-fest.

Wiki also says it's very flat, so even less to excite

Monza is a mass of long straight, but that's still entertaining. :)

Why oh why couldn't they have scrapped Hungary instead.

And once again those in charge of F1 demonstrate that the quality of the racing means less to them than the colour of the money.

I don't think anything means more to them than the colour of money

tbh Ricard is a terrible track with one famous race.

I remember this track from the 80s, liked to destroy engines. Which was most of the entertainment it provided.
According to Wiki (I know I know!) The current owners of the circuit is a company or Bernie Ecclestones'?

doesnt bernie own paul ricard? i bet hes not paying as much to host the race as everywhere else.....

almost more run off than there is track to LOL

How I feel about this depends on why the decision was taken.

1) If this is because the Spa organisers can't afford to host a race every year - oh well, some Spa is better than no Spa at all.
2) If this is because of calendar congestion - get rid of Valencia to free up a spot for the French GP. Also lose Bahrain for good while we're at it, along with Abu Dhabi.

Bahrain is a rich boys toy, as is Abu Dhabi,

I just cannot understand how Velencia can afford a race, apart from that, the track is slightly better than the Las Vegas car park.

That is my thoughts as well.
