That does cover it partly in regards to FS2 and Freelancer...but...also..they're completely different games. FS2 you play with a joystick, dog-fighting and using your afterburners to desperately avoid enemy fighters/beam weapons from capital ships. Freelancer's combat is much worse - mouse control, almost point and click... BUT you've got the openness and ability to trade/go on random missions (which was very poorly implemented imo...x3 is far superior).
I'd say they're very different games. I love FS2 for it's fast-paced space combat...and if I had time at the mo, I'd be playing X3 for it's open-endedness and such.
Freelancer is pretty poor imo..I'd avoid it. (though that might've changed with fan mods)
