Yup as mentioned that was StarLancer, which came out before FreeLancer.

And imho was better Plus you can do co-op campaign mode.

Man, thats going back some! Superb physics on that game though, you could overtake somone, match speed, backflip the ship, then turn off all engines and fire at them while flying backwards

Rogue leader II and III for the Gamecube were a lot of fun. Although more arcade. Freespace 2 is about the best you are going to get though.

Wont get better than Freelancer Loved that game.. just annoyed that it ended so quickly.

Having completed them both I'd say Freespace 2 (modded) is superior to Freelancer.

-Better control system
-Better combat
-Better storyline

The only thing Freelancer has going for it really is that it's a bit more freeform. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good game, but Freespace 2 is superb.

Haven't seen Darkstar One mentioned as yet, so I may as well throw it into the mix. Very similar to Freelancer.

Boring, boring, boring, boring. BORING!

Think of all the boring bits from Freelancer [basically everything outside the main story] rolled into one big game. Darkstar One looks good but any normal person would rather stare at a wall after just a short time of playing.

Freespace 2 is absolutely fantastic. It wasn't too long ago I played last and it looked pretty good. It no doubt looks even better with the new textures as recommened in an earlier post.

Freespace is also fantastic. Graphics aren't as good, obviously, but the storyline is just as epic as its sequel.

Play only X2/X3 if you have vast quantities of your life you no longer want

Its a bit old School (kinda top scroller) but its a laugh, from Russian developers so some of the translation isn't quite right, anyway its called Space Rangers.
