Space - is it infinite?

The universe isn't infinite, or the nights sky would be exceedingly bright!

However, if the universe isn't infinite then it would collapse in on itself under its own gravitational forces

Olbers' Paradox anyone?

The garage.. had a clear out the other day.. and there is SOOoo much space you wont believe!

Dont think its infinite though.. will go check.. wont be back till.. well.. ever if its infinite.
Missed this first time round! :D:D

You could send an email to someone but if your garage is indeed infinite would it ever see the day of light? :p

*head explodes*

I wonder about this a lot when I'm bored.

people use it to get to sleep.

Why?

Because it's totally boring. :)

But here's another if you drilled down from london through the center of the earth and then out to the pacific/atlantic would all the water rush in and flood london? If not how far would the water go before it stopped?

The water would probably stop in the middle due to mavity, and you'd get an immense amount of steam coming up through the hole on both ends as the water hits magma. :D Speaking of magma, you'd probably also create an artificial volcano if you happened to hit a pocket of high pressure.

Some people say it isn't, but it is growing at a speed faster than light, others say it is finite, and other people just kinda shrug.

Please bare in mind, I am *not* talking about the universe, in other words the space where there is "stars and planets" I am talking about the literally black empty cold space.

I heard that currently they have a model at the moment where only 4 percent or so of the universe is made with atoms, everything else is made of Dark Matter and Dark Energy (and by made, I mean the majoriy of the mass comprises of) - kind of cool really :P

No one knows. All we have is theories, one of which *might* be correct.

In the absense of air resistence the water would execute SHM about the centre. WIth resistance it would be damped SHM, eventually coming to rest in the middle, geological considerations notwithstanding.
