Space : The Final Frontier.

War would probably be the catalyst for the development of proper space travel anyway. Look at how wars (and the cold war) have advanced technology over the years, particularly when the factions involved are at a similar technological level... its quite sad really.

why is it sad, its life, pressure and struggle is what makes us stronger, without it everyone would be complacent. there would be no need to create certain beneficial things.

This is a more likely outcome but we would have to be at war with an alien species first !

The only way I could see it happening is in one off multi generation ark type journeys. It would probibly take a few hunderd years just to pick a distination, the journey could take a 1000 years.

If we can find money in space other that just expensive tourism travel then we have a hope of exploring further; maybe mining or so forth will take us there.

Tachyons are still theoretical at the moment aren't they? They need to be discovered before we can create drives that harness them?

Science says it's not possible, however science has been wrong in the past.

Science cant even disprove Time Travel . . . yet.

Correct, you cannot travel faster than light. But who is to say that you cannot just miss out parts of the journey so it looks like you are travelling faster than light. There are many ways around the problem, we just currently lack the technology to do it.

Theoritically it is possible. As has been said, the distortion of space is one possible solution.

At this stage in our understanding though, it is impossible to even test the theory, as we do not have the resources to produce the power needed.

That being said, did they ever create the mini black hole underneath Switzerland?

The LHC is chilling down to the required temperature as we type. They should be able to fire it up within weeks. If the world ends in a strangelet, we'll never know!

I read a lot of sci-fi and often wonder how far we will go.

It took 66 years from the first flight to Man walking on the moon and the next step is the Solar System but what about interstellar space ?

Read the Colnial Marines Technical Manual and the Sulaco is powered by a fusion reactor for sub light speed and a tachyon shunt hyperdrive for interstellar travel where the ship is mirrored in a state comprised of tachyons which allows the ship to travel over 280 times the speed of light and as long as the crew are in hypersleep then time isn't distorted.

Star Wars craft uses hyperspace to travel between the stars.

Star Trek craft uses warp drive to fold space.

All the product of imagination I know but does anyone actually believe that Humans alone will perfect such technology to reach other systems ? How long do you think it will take ? Is it impossible ?

Thoughts ?

There was a program on the discovery channel about humans travelling though worm holes and interstellar space, BUT through high powered computers, They were saying we might not be able to travel physically but through state of art computers we might be able to.

The only way we'd be able to pool enough resources to make any progress in the research for intersystem space travel is if there was world wide co-operation, when we have enough foresight and maturity as a species then maybe this will happen, at least i hope it will, the thought that this life and this planet is all there is for the species is a little bit depressing.

Exploring interstellar space? Hmm.... right now I'd say it's pretty much unthinkable. Assuming we don't destroy ourselves first, which is hard tbh, I think it'll be possible eventually but it won't be for a very long time yet.
