As per title my email account is being bombarded with emails at the rate of a few hundred a day :(

Most have the above in the title and are from MAILER-DAEMON , i have tried to filter these but with the amount i am getting it is impossible to keep on top and Thunderbird spam filter does not allow permanent deletion of spam as it finds it?

What are my options? I use this email account for banking and loads of other places for the past 5 years, really stumped on this.

It may prove helpful if others can get a detailed look at the message. To do this you could open the email, select other actions -> view source and copy all the content to http://pastebin.com

If you wish you can modify or obfuscate your email address and any personal details before submitting to pastebin.
 
If I remember correctly these MAILER-DAEMON e-mails are bounce backs? Mentioning failed attempts to send out e-mails which you have never actually sent?

I believe these can occur 1 of 2 ways...

1. You have a virus/malware on your machine which is attempting to send out e-mail from your system.

2. Someone is spoofing your e-mail address pretending to send out from your, unfortunately however your receiving this MAILER-DAEMON report.


Spam is so hard to deal with. Once your e-mail address is out there its almost impossible to stop id say. People spamming you will never be on a fixed IP address or use the same e-mail address so unable to block them this way.

The only spam filtering software I have had experience with was something called Postini by Google however this is if you have your own domain, not a 3rd party (EG: GMail or Hotmail etc.)

Looks like i may have to change my account, got up to be greeted with 1000+ messages today. Not happy to say the least, its a nightmare the thought of changing all my email connections.

Edit: found an option at my email domain to delete spam before it hits my inbox, just need to make sure i have trained it well enough to recognise what is and is not junk !! Its looking good though :)
