I've started to get increased amount of spam from ecomerce sites that I've never heard of. Mainly American. Lets say my main gmail address is [email protected], I get spam to it as well as [email protected] (which rightly comes to me as well).
In the last week I've had left item emails from:

TruClothing.com 8 Panel Baker Newsboy Hat Tweed Wool 1920s Peaky Cap £20.00
Enexo PRO Bloc prise encastrable compacte 16A - Otio Inox / 4 Quantité: 1
Stila Cosmetics Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Total: $24.00
fabercastell.com
holylandmarket.com
shop.thesak.com
amscope.com AmScope M150 Series Portable Student Monocular Compound Microscope 40X-1000X Magnification with LED and 1MP USB Eyepiece Camera Quantity: 1 — Total: $139.99

For a week or so I was clicking the unsubscribe link which all felt genuine, but I thought perhaps the attack vector here is get me complacent then one day I get a bad email with a bad link. So I stopped doing that.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

I've not had anything quite like that, but have wondered about the safety of clicking unsubscribe links sometimes... I normally prefer not to click on them and just log in manually to change preferences or let emails get sent to spam, but do click sometimes....

I'd guess the most likely reason for these emails is that someone with a similar email mistyped it one day and it got automatically saved by Chrome or whatever, and now gets autofilled in contact forms etc? Never know though...

I get these all the time - have a couple of "alter egos" in the US, one who is a pastor, and one guy who is constantly getting court summons in New Jersey for not paying traffic violations.

Have cancelled a few hotel bookings in the past, and also invited Donald Trump and Elon Musk to an Airbnb I was added to over Christmas

Same, i've got one Indian-American lady who is paying her relatives mobile in Mumbai and regularly hitting dating sites in the US - shes stopped trying to 'reclaim' the account, but regularly registers me for stuff which gets a bit annoying.

The sites your listing are pretty legit so i imagine willson101 is probably fat fingered

One of events I could forgive as typos, but I get the emails multiple times a week from different companies. I also get X/google/facebook recovery emails. I have a high tolerance of spam, with 38k unread emails, but the random stuff seems to be increasing!

You knowing what an attack vector is whilst clicking unsubscribe made me PMSL

Thanks mate, made my day :D :D :D :D :D :D

Do you use separate mailboxes for legit accounts and crap "I know you're going to spam me" sign-ups?
Your email address gets around, so always worth separating.

anyone who emails me and tells me I have stuff in the basket.

I literally never shop with them again.

1 it's not a real basket.
I didn't leave anything theere...
I never touched it...

ITS NOT REAL PAL

the only emails I want from an online retailer are the receipt, and my password if I forget it

anything else is going to put me off your store, I don't want offers or any other nonsense..... I BUY WHEN I WANT.
not when you want me to spend money.

how about I come to your business all the time and keep badgering you, CAN I HAVE A DISCOUNT??????? GOT ANY DISCOUNT CODES PAL?????

you'd be annoyed in no time.

lets not pretend theres some special relationship between business and customer, there isn't.

you do what you do because the law says you have to... you don't have refund policies and return policies because it's a stand up business.

I’ve got a few alter ego’s in America and Australia

I used to regularly get one persons family photos,
I’ve been invited on their holidays
I’ve even received some receipts for their military service exenses
I’ve had numerous hotel and hire booking confirmations with links to cancel (I didn’t, that’s not cool).
Professional qualification subscriptions
Magazine subs
Quotes for things like building work
Messages from their book keeper/accountant
Stuff from their kids schools and clubs etc…

I has a paid up Spotify account on my email address for awhile, wasn’t mine…

I’ve had invites for job interviews and I even had some American football scout trying to get me to try out for their team.

You name it, I’ve had it. The amount of stuff a couple of people with my name must be missing out on because they can’t type their email correctly is nuts.

I’ve been on web sites before, added stuff and started the checkout process, only to decide part way through that I’m not 100% sure about it and just close the window.

And then I’ve had an email a couple of days later to remind me that I didn’t complete the purchase and give me a voucher code for a discount to complete it.

It’s only happened once or twice but in each case, it’s been enough to make me reconsider and eventually complete the transaction.

I absolutely despise those emails when you don’t buy something that you put in the basket. The basket is just a quick way of saving something that you are thinking about. I know if I buy it or not, I don’t need the digital equivalent of a retail assistant chasing me down the street that I haven’t bought something I was thinking about buying

I deliberately do this on sites when I fully intend to buy something, but not necessarily urgently, as you say, it doesn't happen often, maybe 1/20, but it can be worth waiting a couple of days for that potential 10% off code :D

There there, it's ok, it's not your fault.

Now why don't you show us on the doll where the online retailer touched you

I do this all the time for non-urgent items.

Last one was the oil service kit for my car. Popped it in the basket about a month before it was needed.

4 days later, 15% discount, saved me about a 12 quid.

From the merchants point of view they are one of the better e-mails to be sending, they generally have a significantly higher open rate than most marketing e-mails and can drive a good number of sales however annoying they are...
