Nothing in what i said inplies such a thing
Ive aaid hats off to lewis when hes won fair and square this season too.... credit where credits due.
On the mclaren... a horrible sunday and clearly problems with the car but at least the improvement in perfomance is still on a linear upward curve compared to the the last weekends... both drivers into q2 at least is a step forward
The general linear trend is that EVERY team gets faster through the season. Mclaren need to buck that trend and gain in a non linear fashion, faster than all the other teams. So far they are out-developing one team that isn't developing the current car at all.
Have Mclaren moved forward at all if they pass a non developed A-spec Force India, but at Silverstone Force India are faster than Mclaren in their b-spec car?
Fact is that every other race the estimation of when they'll be competitive moves back several races at a time.
At the start of testing there was confidence, by the end they were saying European races at the very earliest for any real performance... after a single race they gave up trying to save engines, after 2-3 races they'd moved their "we might be competitive" estimate from Barcelona back to the latter stages of the season. Boullier most recently has been saying 2016 for any competitive speed AND now mentions how Ferrari, Merc, Red Bull all took 3-4 years to build a team and win titles.
Button after the race said semi jokingly but clearly semi seriously that he wasn't remotely sure they'd get any points this season at all. From we might be pretty fast in Barcelona to, it takes year to win a title AND we might not get points at all this season.
Mclaren are still merely only faster than the Manor cars. They weren't competitive with a Lotus with part of the rear wing missing ffs.
I've said before, I'd put money on Mclaren/Honda making the same changes Ferrari did for next year. compressor out of the V(back or front), and build the best engine you can, then build the best aero around the best engine you can.
