Sparklies, game crash then no display...

You know, you could try the oven trick. The exact same thing happened to my friends 9800GT because his PC had terrible ventilation and was dusty as hell. I bought said card home and cooked it in the oven (yes, really!) for a few minutes and left it to cool and voila! A fully working 9800GT for next to nothing. And it overclocked really well too!

Anyway, I'd say give it a shot if your comfortable with removing the cooler from your card. You've nothing to lose :)

Think I'm going to have a look at what is involved with giving it a whirl in the oven to see if that fixes it, if it doesn't I'll get myself something second hand to get it back up and running until I upgrade in a few weeks time.

So...next question, what do I need to do to give it a go in the oven??? Any tutorials anywhere or any advice from people who have done it.

cheeky git:p

Just been looking on google but wondered if anyone here who's tried it has any tips/advice.

Just follow the general guides really. I used gas mark 6 for 8 minutes and left it to cool for around 5~10 mins afterwards. All you have to do is remove the cooler, give it a good dust and remove stuff such as cooling pads and thermal paste. Put it on a tray covered in foil and make foil 'feet' on each 4 corners of the card to hold it up so the whole card can be heated. Also put the card in GPU side up so when it reflows it makes the best 'connection' possible. :) Reassemble and see if it works!
