SPDIF Header to Optical Out

I've been looking at a new build for my HTPC/general purpose server and for the ultra low power requirements I've settled on this motherboard.

My issue is that it doesn't have a SPDIF out on the i/o panel. As far as I can tell there's a header on the board somewhere, but I can't seem to find anyone who sells an adapter or whatever is required to go from that header to an optical out format.

I might be looking for the wrong thing but this page (right at the bottom) seems to make it fairly clear.

Is there a better way of getting optical out or does someone know where I can get hold of one of these adapters?

What are you hooking up to?

It's going in to an amp with an optical in.

Quick look , I came up with gigabytes own website that sells them

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/accessory.aspx

hope that helps

Thanks for the link but gigabyte don't actually retail from their website. I found the same thing on the Biostar website but couldn't find any vendors that actually stock the accessories. It's the same deal with the Gigabyte retailers. I guess I'll just have to call around vendors until I find one who can get the part.

always wondered same as OP
try searching for
SPDIF RCA Out Plate Cable Bracket
check includes toslink optical,
check pins on board matches
usually
+5v, blank, spdifout,gnd

Unfortunately googling for that exact phrase has a thread from this very forum... There's one online retailer I found which was out of stock. I was really hoping to avoid fleabay but I can't find anyone selling them in this country.

Not many of those SPDIF PCI brackets about now it seems. There's a few, but £25 and more is a ridiculous price really. Cheap ones don't seem to exist anymore.

Next best choice is probably a USB to SPDIF converter, but again, there aren't that many, and some are as much as buying a cheap sound card.

why not that one?

not suiting your needs would be a good reason.

Just get one that actually has SPDIF out on the rear panel.
