Speaker issue

Got a strange issue in my POS car...

Basically, sometimes whilst listening to the radio/cd, the front left speaker (or what appears to be coming from that direction) seems to cut out randomly. Its like someone has hold of the speaker cable connection and is sort of rubbing the wire against the contacts. I can solve the issue by giving it a good blast on the volumn. This then kind of flushes the issue out for a while and then it will come back.

Any ideas what this could be?

1) Connection problem?
or
2) A dodgy speaker?

Could be either but I would start by running a new cable connecting the stereo to the speaker. Don't bother routing it properly until you've established that it has fixed the problem.

Of course once you are able to access the speaker you may discover that the connection has come loose somehow, but one way or another you'll have to expose the speaker.
