speaker recommendations

Love my 2020i's sound really clear over my old speakers. Got them just before the price drop from RS at the start of Dec

Got them sat on some mission stands either side of my TV.

Will take some pics over the weekend.

They certainly kick out some sound for their size :)

Just a quick update and pic :)

Had a good play with the speakers now and I'm extremely pleased with them. Fantastic sound quality for the money paid.

Got the Denon all set up to stream my music via plex and got a great little app on my phone to control it all with.

Next job is to tidy the cables :p

Good lord man those cables.

So I'm guessing with just an all-in-one unit you haven't got the speakers hooked up to the TV at all, seems a shame when they are in such close proximity

I know, I know, the cables are bad :( Need to sort it before a family of rats move in.

I have an optical cable running from the TV to one of the demons two optical inputs so I can use the speakers for the TV :)

Sounds much better than the TV speakers!

Oh nice, enjoy!

Side note, where did you pick the stands up from and how much for? Moving place this weekend and may have to put my 2010i's on stands

Bought the mission stands in a sale at a sevenoaks store I believe. Must have been a good 10 years ago though. Think they were about £50 - £60.

For their price I'm tempted to pick a pair up for when I get my own place later in year as funds will be tight. I'd just need an amp for them I'm assuming?

You will need an amp, however, there are many T-Amps available for cheap from either Topping or SMSL, so £50-£100 on top depending on output/features would be OK for entry level stuff.

I demo'd a load of small speakers in Richer Sounds on the weekend, definitely worth doing as I did find I preferred some over others but there are tons to choose from in the £100-£150 range.

Good to know thanks. Might pop into my local Richer Sounds at the weekend and hear them and others in person first.

Second hand B&W 685's are coming in near this budget, and are an absolutely excellent speaker. Better than anything else suggested in this thread, as far as I've seen. I have 2 pairs of these, and 2 pairs of the smaller 686's. They are also fantastic.

B&Ws aren't fantastic at all. I wouldn't even class them as serious audiophile speakers, they are more like lifestyle speakers - they look pretty and do a job but that's it. I auditioned some CM8s a few weeks ago and they were very disappointing. Pretty poor for a speaker costing £1500 TBH.

Ona first listen with B&Ws thought amazing then kept auditioning others in £1000/pair bracket and came back to B&W, thought was not good at all.

Did listen to q acoustics floor standers very good soundstage and dispersion characteristics.
