I'm looking to upgrade my current speaker system (crappy Yamaha all-in-one package), one bit at a time, and on a student budget :p

I've been looking at the Eltax Concept 180's which can be had for £50 English Pounds on Richer Sounds - anybody care to offer their opinion on them? (Know DRZ will be along soon enough (telling me I need to spend more money ;)))

Then to complete the front of the system I was looking at the Eltax Symphony Centre, which can be had for an amazing £15 again off Richer Sounds. I know this really is doing it on a budget, but to be honest I'm quite pleased with my already cheap sounding Yamaha setup - so anything more is a Brucey Bonus.

So basically - I just need to know if there's a better way to spend the same, or roundabouts, money.

Opinions greatly received :D

To be honest I would save up £200 or so then buy a package cheap 2nd hand off somewhere like avforums (assume I can mention them!)

Indeed it would be a better idea, but I'm a lowly student, and saving that £200 would be quite a feat. However, I shall go and take a look over there and see what's up for grabs - thanks for the tip :)

The only advice here would be to buy second hand. There are loads of bargains about and you will get loads more sound for your cash.

better off sticking to stereo if you're on a budget tbh, that is i'm assuming that you are after improved SQ..

Being a student isnt a good excuse either ;) Im a skint student and i've just bought a NAD/B&W hifi system :p DRZ is in with the ranks of us students too ;)

I got a C320BEE amp and C520 CDP both off ebay for bargaintastic prices, and the atlas interconnects too. I'm not for a minute saying you should get into buying this kind of stuff, but if you have a keen eye for bargains, you can get very serious value for money on the second hand market.

Mate, get me on the blower when you are back and I will take you over to Liverpool and we shall see whats what.

Alternatively, whenever you are about just call and you can pop over and talk it through. I might have something in the loft for you, not sure and will have to look.

Im with the hi fi crowd. Ive just picked up a set of B&W601's and a NAD C320 amp for about £200. Its lovely. Thats coming through an onboard soundcard and i havn't got the speakers mounted properly so i imagine that it will improve more when i set it all up properly.

Well worth it.

Budget kit doesn't get much better than NAD, after all it is how they made their name, with the legendary 3020. It is cheap thats for sure, whether you like the sound is up to you though.
