Speaker stand recommendations?

Hi guys,

I bought some B&W 685 speakers over the summer and am looking to buy some stands to place the speakers either side of the desk. I know next to nothing about stands, other than they need to be heavy and the speakers sounded much better on stands in the shop! The desk is actually quite tall - roughly 70cm, so i would need the stands to be around this height.

Can anyone recommend some speaker stands that can be had for around £70 (i guess i could stretch to £100 - but would rather not!). I would consider buying second hand if there are good models to look out for.

So far i have looked at:
-Atacama Nexus 6 stands (which come in a 70cm variety)
-Target Stands (there are two models that fit in this price range and i have found little in the way of opion on google)

Anyone have any experience with either brand?

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated

I think for the price a pair of Atacama Nexus 7's would be a good choice, Nexus 6 are 600mm, Nexus 7 are 700mm, 10 are 1000mm etc etc so you want a pair of Nexus 7.

Cheers. My mistake, i assumed that 'nexus 6' was a series - just goes to show how little i know about speaker stands! I'll look into getting some in the next few days. Meanwhile, if anyone else has any good suggestions, please let me know!

Atacama Nexus series are good solid stands, I have used a pair of Nexus 6's for the last 4 years or so, they can be ballasted very easily as well.

Thanks Moeks - i these seem to be the only stands that really meet all the requirements, and its reassuring to know that they are a decent brand etc. Really looking forward to the extra desk space!

Go second hand and try to pickup some welded stands, much more rigid than bolt together stands.

Look for TARGET stands if you can, although a little hard to find these days.
