im after some bookshelf powered speakers that are decent, well anything better then the monitor speakers, i want to attach to the monitor stand uprights, was looking at edifier 1280db or dbs around the £100-£150 mark

any ideas something small but decent for the sim rig?
cheers in advance

You're not getting anything worth listening to on 5.1 for £100-150.

The 1280 are hard to beat at that price tbh.

Agree totally. With a sim rig though probably limited in space, having whopping great speakers on a platform probably just too big, even if they do sound great.

How about monitor audio minx? Or for bigger some Q Acoustic 3010i. They have screw holes on the bottom so you could mount them that way.

is 5.1 a bit overkill for racing games?

no for just a sim racing 7.1 would be over kill but 5.1 will give a better feel for the game and make you feel more attached to the game and what's going on around you.

another option would be the 1280db, there very good speakers and a good headset.

i have a headset, its ok does the the job its a Sennheiser GSP 670, but im not really one for sitting in rig with headset on as no chat allowed during races, hence why speakers i thought would be a good option, the money is there to spend more, but i dont play everyday due to work and cant justify it, plus getting old:cry:

plus getting old
i feel that one buddy.

the 1280db is a very good unit, you wont be disappointed. im just saying somthing that surrounds you will be so much better
going 4.1 would cost less than 5.1 but still offer a surrounded game feeling

the Sennheiser GSP 670 is a 7.1 headset going from that to just front firing speakers i would think you will notice a big difference

How does surround sound work with games? Would you use onboard 5.1 out?

If so how about a couple of T amplifiers (or a four channel version if they exist) and two pairs of Wharfedale Diamond 9.0. Probably less than £200 for that. No sub woofer but that could be bought later

you can use onboard, most do just that unless you go higher end but for a game its not really needed

Not talking of quality, just how surround sound processing is done in games, since it's all realtime, so how would stereo out, hdmi/optical out work as it's not encoded to a multi channel sound mix.
