im after some bookshelf powered speakers that are decent, well anything better then the monitor speakers, i want to attach to the monitor stand uprights, was looking at edifier 1280db or dbs around the £100-£150 mark

any ideas something small but decent for the sim rig?
cheers in advance

You're not getting anything worth listening to on 5.1 for £100-150.

The 1280 are hard to beat at that price tbh.

Agree totally. With a sim rig though probably limited in space, having whopping great speakers on a platform probably just too big, even if they do sound great.

How about monitor audio minx? Or for bigger some Q Acoustic 3010i. They have screw holes on the bottom so you could mount them that way.

is 5.1 a bit overkill for racing games?

no for just a sim racing 7.1 would be over kill but 5.1 will give a better feel for the game and make you feel more attached to the game and what's going on around you.

another option would be the 1280db, there very good speakers and a good headset.

i have a headset, its ok does the the job its a Sennheiser GSP 670, but im not really one for sitting in rig with headset on as no chat allowed during races, hence why speakers i thought would be a good option, the money is there to spend more, but i dont play everyday due to work and cant justify it, plus getting old:cry:

plus getting old
i feel that one buddy.

the 1280db is a very good unit, you wont be disappointed. im just saying somthing that surrounds you will be so much better
going 4.1 would cost less than 5.1 but still offer a surrounded game feeling

the Sennheiser GSP 670 is a 7.1 headset going from that to just front firing speakers i would think you will notice a big difference

How does surround sound work with games? Would you use onboard 5.1 out?

If so how about a couple of T amplifiers (or a four channel version if they exist) and two pairs of Wharfedale Diamond 9.0. Probably less than £200 for that. No sub woofer but that could be bought later

I do get where you're coming from, and it does depend on the person no doubt. That said, for the users budget for speakers I'd find the quality of the sound so poor that it would be utterly annoying, and I'm really not an audio snob. You could probably get some great results for that money with headphones and emulated surround, however, which would be my personal preference if aiming for surround on a very tight budget.

just to say i picked up the R1280dbs from B clearance for £79. no regrets, sound great tbf :)

Glad you're enjoying them mate, Edifier are hard to beat at the price point tbh.

i wasnt the one saying to buy Wharfedale, even a good budget surround set would feel more immersive then 2.0.
i have a pair of Edifier R1280TS there very good for my use case, but when i game i wear Steelseries Arctis Pro not the best headset in the world but a good one.
i coulnt play a FPS without surround sound you can pin point where people are around you with out having to move round.

with 2.0 you have yo spin round till you hear the sound loudest then you know there behind a wall Infront of you..
for a racing sim, knowing there is a guy on you rear left gaining on you without talking you eyes of the road... just seams important to me.

i remember the first time i used a cheap (about £90) logitech 7.1 speakers playing battlefield 4, i just couldn't believe what i have been missing out on.

i would find a cheap gaming set up on amazon and try it for a week you can always send it back for a refund. then buy from OcUK as you should always do...
