Building a portable PC. I've got th screen all sorted. I'm going to build the case myself. What I want is a very fast computer that can handle internet browsing and office. As its portable I'm going to need some sort of battery.

The words fast and battery power arent normally something associated together unless talking about a laptop.

Essentially what I'm doing is building a laptop. Custom design. I know its easier to just get an old laptop, but this is more of a passion project. I want to see if I can do it.

You could get second hand parts from laptop but this would probably cost you more then laptop, and if you planning to use non mobile cpu, you will have to attach car battery to it.

Fair play for attempting this but it'll be difficult methinks. As already said buy a second hand laptop?

I have a second hand laptop that I used for the screen. The HDD died. The only issue I have with ripping the motherboard is that its a generation old still using only ddr2.

What about looking on ebay/gumtree for a decent laptop with a broken screen that someone is selling cheap for parts and then buy an SSD?

Got one. Nifty piece of kit, but much slower than I would have liked. I've got the Raspeian OS installed and surfing the web is still feels slow.

I've thought about that, but I would need to ensure the motherboard hasn't got some daft connection to the screen it is using.

Could you get a cheap NUC or something similar?

A nuc is a theory. I've seen one for only £99. Gigabyte Brix GB-BXBT-2807 Baytrail Celeron N2807 HDMI Barebone

Is it possible to take apart a nuc? I like the idea of using one, just not how big it is.
