Spec a £1000ish system

Personally i think SSDs are still a bit pricey for what they give you but if i was gonna get one i think a 120gb would be fine, and im speaking as a gamer myself. Maybe you wouldnt be able to have everything installed all the time but 120gb will let ya have at least 7-8 games your playin regularly to be set up on it maybe some more along with windows ect ofc.

Well with the USB3 on special offer it's £17! I can't for the life of me see a difference between them. They have a slightly different audio chip and slightly different placement of some connectors on the board. That seems to be it.

Thats all that i could see! i suppose this would be the board to go for then?

Yep. That mobo wont do 'proper' sli/x-fire though - you know that right? So best sticking to single gpu. Need to spend a little more for 8x/8x x-fire/sli.

It's perfect for your budget, add 2 viper fans to that Megahalems though and use some MX-3 or MX-4 paste then you are set.

its £1017 total.

so about £150 less than the i7. help making the descision?

and case fans?

Hmmm - some people might compare that with your OP spec and say well that was an i7 build for the same price :). But then you've gone for some pricey fast RAM, the mouse and those pricey fans. I guess it's up to your mate what he wants. Personally I'd think about saving a bit on the mobo, ram etc, and work in SSD or a more expensive shiny mouse/keyboard for example. But then they could always be added later. Oh, and if you're gonna get the UD4 - get the UD5 instead for the same price!
