Hey all,

Coudl you guys spec my a 2k gaming rig, this is gonna be used for games mainly , and it needs to be excellent for games, i would like it to be a amd system with nivida sli gfx ,

oh , Would 2 x 7800 gtx 256 ddr be better than 1 x 7800 gtx 512 ddr ?

oh and it needs to be with a 19 inch tft monitor, keyboard and mouse.

which would be the better option to pick,

thanks all,

saboy

I have specced this, I choose a pair of X1900XT's instead of the 7800gtx's as this is much faster. I have included a raptor which will allow it to load windows or other programs fast.

lee87's specification looks basically fine but I wouldn't bother with 2xX1900XTs because for a 19" monitor you are talking massive overkill, I doubt you will see a game for at least 2 years that will need that level of power for 1280x1024. In fact I'd get something like a Dell 2405 24" monitor and 1xX1900XT and it will still be more than capable of anything you can throw at it.

If however you do want the Crossfire for whatever reason you only need one Crossfire master card so save a bit of money and get an ordinary X1900XT to pair it with :)

I'd also change the DVDRW to the NEC 4551 which is under the Lightscribe/Lightflash section of the optical drives now as it is the newest that NEC have.

Realised that just after I posted it up, have now changed it to make it a bit cheaper.

I agree with semi pro waster, I would spend more on a bigger monitor and get just get 1 X1900XT.

Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey (30906) (MO-001-DE)

£822 , should i really spend that much on a monitor ?

You could get the Acer 24" widescreen monitor this costs £622 or the Acer 20" widescreen for £287.

You could stick with a 19" montior, but I would only get one X1900XT and save up and get a new DX10 graphics card in a years time.

Originally I was going to push the boat out and get a crossfire Ultima rig from here, but just couldn't decide on a monitor big enough to do it justice.(for gaming so good performance of the monitor was crucial)

So I opted for a highend build using one x1900 and a responsive 19" monitor,I say opted but still trying to decide.

Personally I'd simply avoid a Crossfire motherboard altogether for now, there seem to be quite a few problems with them - especially the Asus. I'd simply go for a DFI Ultra-D motherboard and an X1900XT with a nice TFT. IMO Crossfire and SLI are not worth it, just buy one high-end card, and then a single next-gen card when they arrive - it'll be faster than 2 high end current-gen cards in SLI/Crossfire.

Just my spec from the other thread.

As for x1900xt/x, I have a sapphire xtx, so I'd go out on a limb and say the sapphire xt will be the best xt.

So ill informed.. the Asus is a fine board and GREAT for gaming. I am just about to install my second one and they are very good. The issues with them are centered primarally around higher voltages used by extreme overclockers. OCuK also use the Asus in their mega overclocked rig they sell.. if OCuK think it's good enough.. then it ought to be good enough for anyone.

The Asus is the best Crossfire board around and the biggest thing going for them is the sound, second biggest thing is the fact that they run at a bargain price. You do not need an additional board until your VERY heavily into music.
