Afternoon all,

My girlfriend is looking for a new car, she currently has a soft top KA and has between £4,000 and £4,500 (no more I'm afraid) to spend on a second hand car.

The criteria is lowish miles (100k is a no go), fairly young. Again, not strictly important but nothing insane.

Automatic would be good, petrol/diesel doesn't matter. Power doesn't have to be insane. What she REALLY likes is a M Sport 1 series lol. But we can't find any decent examples in that budget.

Thoughts? I'm stumped, she found a Honda Civic, but it looks awful in my opinion.

Nice cars actually :)

how reliable are they? a friend had the 2 litre sport and I was very fond of it, he didn't own it long though.

they're basically mk2 ford focus! :) I had mine for around 6 months now and it's been fine bar the front airbag sensor going kaboom which was £17 to fix after getting the part from germany :o

with my heavy foot tho, I get around 21mpg in london traffic! :o

4 - 4.5k without any real limits on type of car opens up just about anything made in the last 10-15 years

Would be useful to know a bit more about what she would like and criteria for number or doors seating does she want a bigger car ie 3 series or small and sporty like an mx5?

What sort of toys does she want with it leather / cloth, sat nav etc?

Based on the 1 series m sport I assume she wants something smallish and sporty maybe a cooper s would fit the bill if the budget wont stretch to the 1 series

My wife has a street ka and she's been looking to buy a ds3

My mum has one. The wind noise and stability is horrific at only 70mph. It's like sitting in a 2 seater aircraft.

Avoid the KA as well. They like to explode after a few years :D I don't think they are actually even made by Ford.

That is shocking from a car with 147bhp  I drive my 225bhp ST like its stolen every day and still haven't dropped under 24.2mpg! Are u sure it's not broken ;)

In regards to OP as others have said can't go wrong with the Focus and Mazda 3's for 4K. Or even a newer shape Fiesta.

I know ;) but the manufacturers quoted mpgz are 24.x so me doing 21ish is not that bad :o I only get around 320miles to the tank
