Hi there,

One of my friends is looking to build a new system and has a budget of £600. I know you guys love speccing so I'm asking for your help please. The requirements are these:

  • 160GB HDD
  • 19" Monitor
  • At least 512MB GPU

This build will be used for surfing the internet, office use, needs to be overclockable (core 2 duo) and needs to be able to handle most of todays gaming titles.

Thanks

Off the top of my head:

Gigabyte P35 DS3R/Q6600 Retail/Geil 6400 2gb kit/Asus 8800GT/Lian-Li PC7 Plus/Corsair 520W PSU/250gb Seagate 7200.10/Samsung SATA DVD-RW should put you at about £600.

The main site won't load up for me to check for exact price.:(

Yeah quad core would take me over budget and core 2 duo would definately be what he's looking at. Cheers

liam: you sure thats around £600, I would have thought about £800?

Total : £593.21

just under 2gb ddr2, core2duo, 8800 gt, huge screen! :D

nah more like 750, i tried that! and just realised i forgot a psu but that will only put you another 35 down so £625 total :D

This is basically £600 bang on mish.

Like you say i'd add something like the arctic freezer 7 for clocking it!

You could change the PSU for the huntkey but i'm not sure how good they are - plus it's only another £8 for a 20" monitor!

You could also save some cash by getting a 2140 or 2160 instead as the GEIL ram will clock them nicely! ;)

Thanks for the posts, could do with an after-market cooler I think as we'd like to try and get it up to 3GHz+.

Got here a bit too late to actually do a specification but the stock coolers seem to be pretty decent overall, there have been a few people well over 3ghz still on the retail coolers. Worth a try at least I'd have thought. :)

gt_junkie's looks to be the best for the budget although as suggested I'd be tempted to for the E2160 and spend the cash saved on the 20" monitor.

Cheers semi-pro - i completely agree. The jump from 19" to 20" is a worthwhile one and the 2160 is a great chip. I had one for a while after having a clocked e6600 and didnt' notice the difference! :)

The swap would be very beneficial!
