Guys my friend is on a tight budget, and they would like a full system (monitor, keyboard and mouse) for around £600. They want to use the Pentium D 805 as the processor because they know it overclocks well. The rig will basically be used for burning DVD's, general office tasks, and the occasional game. Hopefully you guys can work your magic on this one and come up with another cracking spec :D

Had to get a conroe in aswell. Only thing i am slightly worried about is the psu.

Is there that much difference in performance between the Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB), and the Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz (533FSB) favoured by my friend?

I see you didn't include XP, at the risk of bigging up my own spec :P

250 gb + the 7600 GT + the 19 inch monitor is worth 50 quid more

Do people still buy XP? (j/k)

I know what you mean, for a little more money you can get some good improvements, but i was trying to keep it in budget.

what speeds have people been overclocking the Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz to, because i've seen the Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz clocked to 4.1Ghz... I'll also try to persuade him to increase his budget to get the extra performance

a 805 at 4ghz would be performing around a 6300 at stock :).

People have been getting them to over 3ghz on stock cooling

EDIT: But with that mobo and ram don't expect more than 2,9

People have been getting over 3ghz pretty easily on the e6300 with ds3/ds4.

Have a look here for more info.
