Spec a sound production rig - Whats Important

Hi, I have a friend that looks at a new computer for creating music. He uses all the typical sound production stuff like Q-Bass etc.

I was thinking, OCUK value 24" and some decent hardrives. Perhaps a VelociRaptor + 2 X F1 1TBs in RAID 0. Maybe an asus sonar? Is there any other computers that are critical that i am missing?

Note, he has all the high end speakers, amp etc ...

Unfortunately 32mb is far to small for a standard Vista OS drive.

Any other parts / crucial points within a sound production rig that i should be thinking about?

Well yeh that's another option, but if the OP's friend is a Windows user then that isn't really an option.

Macs are over priced.

How much ram are we talking about? 8GB?

16 might be better for larger projects. It all depends on the software your using (logic? protools?) and the size of your projects...
