Hi im a little out of the loop now so could some kind souls spec a base unit for running google sketch up and 3D autocad that is only used for 2D drawings. could have 3 instances of sketch up running alongside autocad, office and numerous browser windows open. budget around £700 - £1000 for complete base unit. its for work so onboard sound is fine.

many thanks
Darren

Is it justgoing to be for drawings and modelling? No high-end renderings or anything like that?

If so, those applications are single threaded, which means an i5 would perform just as well a an i7 would (as the i7 brings extra 'logical' cores with hyperthreading).

Single threaded applications also respond well to high cores speeds, so if you want to OC, it will have a good effect.

Id take stulids build but replace the mobo and CPU set with these:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £185.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £61.99
Total : £257.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Will make it £140 cheaper.. So nearer the £800 mark.

That could work also, as none of of those programs are CUDA biased, open GL will work just as well, meaning an AMD cardisa good option. That is a stunning price for a 7770 too..

Good job stu..

Thanks for the specs you've listed, I will ask tomorrow about os as its for a guy in a workshop next to me. It's just for modelling kitchens so will give them the i5 and i7 options.

Yeah, for that an i5 should be fine...

EDIT: was just about to point outthe 4690k z97XSLI offer.. Beaten..

And it will provide some over clocking head room. If he won't be into overclocking you can save even more money by dropping to a H81/B85 motherboard and i5 4430/4440 CPU.
