Hey so I'm wanting to get into RTS as I've had enough of fps and rpg games, I jsut get bored of them really quickly as there's nothing really -that- new in terms of story and gameplay.

So I tried out the demo of Company of Heroes on steam and really really enjoyed it but it was extremely difficult and on skirmish I constantly get my ass handed to me even on easy lol

Anyways, would this be a good game to buy for someone new to rts or are there any better ones, I don't want the game to be so easy I can play it with my eyes closed but CoH just seems almost too difficult :/

Maybe it gets easier with lots and lots of practice? Or maybe I just need some pointers on how to be successful in these type of games :P

Company of Heroes is an excellent game.

Especially as a newcomer to RTS games, playing online will just result with you getting very frustrated and being turned off from the games, as the players online are all going to be much more experienced.

The CoH campaigns are very good, and will get you used to playing RTS games, as well as teaching you how each unit works, and the best combinations/techniques.

Once you're confident in single player mode, then move to online - but be prepared to still have your backside handed to you! ;)

How about World in Conflict to start with, I'd think it would be a good way to start with rts since you dont have much management to do. Its very easy to play and a lot of fun.
Then CoH, Total war etc

also, check out gamereplays to help ya with online, then you wouldn't get as badly wiped.

Ok thanks guys, I think I will go with CoH then and do the campaigns to learn about it all.
After about a year I may be able to go online and win lol
Also there's a great deal going on in a online retailer site which is coh and both expansions for only £15 :)

something from the command & conquer series.
apart from red alert 3 <<< avoid avoid avoid

redalert 2/yuris revenge
generals/zerohour
tiberiun sun/kanes wrath
all great games

Deffinatley Command and Conquer as said above though, avoid RA3.. it's shocking.

Tiberium Wars and Kanes wrath both very good, I still struggle with a 2v2 AI on Medium (And i've been playing C&C since the original!)

Red Alert 2 is also very good, along with the older C&Cs such as Tiberium Sun.

I'm a C&C whore.. can you tell?

Yeah I was thinking of trying C&C too, they seem to get good reviews. I'll have a look round for a demo.
My CoH and both expansions is on its way to me so I've been bladdering the demo till it gets here lol.
Can't believe I haven't got into RTS games before now, been pc gaming since the dawn of damn time :P

hiya i just started trying a few of these games out

warhammer 40k the first 1 been having some fun wiith that around 15quid for all the addons for it etc

got world in conflict to try out next too

liked the 40k 1 but found the winter assault a bit too hard for me (yes im well crap at rts type games)

Total War and Supreme Commander are hardly for RTS noobs... :p

I'd recommend keeping at CoH campaign, it's such a good game. Also think about the C&C series for more arcadey action.
