If you'll be using it as a HTPC the integrated GPU on the processor will improve playback at 24fps. If your not too fussed about playing movies etc on it then going for a Intel Cerleron/Pentium (1155) may be a better option. Motherboard has 5 SATA ports and HDMI to connect to amplifier/TV.

Budget Intel option. The G530 will be fine for basic tasks such as browsing/home server etc. No need for a dedicated/discrete GPU, use the onboard Intel HD2000. Gigabyte Gen3. board so UK warranty and full compatibility with Ivy Bridge CPUs so decent possible upgrade path. Only the four SATA ports though on the downside.

For the OS, take a look at VortexBox

It's a fedora16 based distro that auto-rips cds and dvds (can also do blu-rays), and comes pre-configured with a samba server, Logitech Squeezebox server, and mini-DLNA server.

There's a load of stuff you can install from the web-ui as well easily.

Quite a few option but if it's not going to really fully use the onboard Radeon 6530 then may as well go down the route of Intel and something like a G530/G620.

im out of touch with hardware by about 4 years so ive no idea what a g530 or g620 is :p

Lower end sandy bridge pentium processor models.

The g860, for example, was found to be on par with the top end AMD offering (FX8120), so really a g530/620 would be fine for your needs.

Basically the spec in post #4. Most H61 motherboards only tend to come with around 4 sata ports do you could swap the motherboard for something like a basic Z68 board such as the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 or the Asus P8Z68-V LX which have a total of 6 sata ports.
