Should I get the DS3 rather than the Asus mobo?

Should I get the slightly slower G.Skill CAS5 RAM on special offer this week and save £20?

Should I get a Radeon X1950 and save some cash? I won't be playing games a lot, but I want to be able to play the new CNC game when it comes out (don't mind about it being in the best detail, but needs to be reasonable)

Would the 6300 be a better choice than the 4300?

I'm assuming you have an optical drive?

The ASUS is fine, I would stick with the Geil, the 8800GTS is a great card might as well go DX10 you will not regret it. The 6300 should be fine as you've got pretty good RAM.

No. it is worth spending 20 quid for 4-4-4-12 rather than the sluggish 5-5-5-15.

No. the BFG GTS is the best bang for the buck card at the moment IMO. 1950pro is good but you will soon find it hard to play the latest DX10 games.

Are you going to overclock?? If yes then the 4300 is the one to go for, if not it is worth spending a little extra on the E6300.

Thanks for your replies. I've got 2 Pioneer DVDRWs (different models) and loads of other old disk drives so no worries there. I've changed to the DS3, seems the Asus also has a problem fitting that Tuniq Tower (in the reviews someone mentions it). I will be overclocking it so I'll stick with the 4300.

Looking forward to this! Just have to wait till the 8800 GTS OC gets back in stock !ETA: 28/02/07!

Just been looking up some threads on the 6300/4300 and found this post

For the sake of your predicament however, you certainly don't need justification as it's common knowledge to most people on here that they'd rather have a E6300 over a E4300 with decent RAM/Mobo combinations.

The E6300 may hit a higher clock and have lower temps, but is it worth the hassle of a few MHz and celsius? If yes, then by all means do it. Just remember to stick to your guns about the price you are selling/buying.

Seems to be conflicting information about about whether or not the 6300/4300 is a better overclocker. Noticed a lot of posts abotu only getting a 4300 if you have a cheaper mobo + non-6400 RAM (which I won't)?

The E4300 is certainly easier to clock due to higher multiplier, but AFAIK the E6300 might give a higher clock overall.

There is no guarantee for successful OC, but in theory E4300 should be easier to clock due to higher multi.

I've got 2 Pioneer DVDRWs (different models) and loads of other old disk drives so no worries there.

Mind you though the DS3 only has 2 IDE channels so is only going to accommodate your Pioneer DVD-RWs. So make sure all your HDDs are SATA.
