TL;DR
Check the spec below is good for silent, powerful gaming in a small space.

Hi sexy people,

As my HTPC I currently have a

MSI £35 socket 775 board
Q6600 @3.1
4gb DDR3
465GTX bios modded -> 470GTX (with the extra ram on it, and its stupid loud and overheats in the summer)
Crucial M300 60gb SSD (boot)
2 x Samsung F1 in RAID 0 (steam games)
2x DVDRW
OCZ 750w (maybe 7 or 800) PSU
All in a stupidly old hot, massive and rattly Thermaltake Kandalf of god awful ugliness

I am looking to upgrade this to something with a worthwhile amount more grunt while being as silent as possible, smaller, lighter and prettier (while being unobtrusive)

I was thinking of sourcing the below, or similar, parts via the MM over the next couple of weeks/months. I have already got the gtx 770 from an RMA replacement from a friend so figured I may as well get the rest of the spec sorted.

I do have a capture card that is currently in my main rig but may well be moved over to this one so I can use it + the HD webcams I have to do my recording rather than the million extension cables I have going to my main rig in a different room atm.
Along with possible future random SLI upgrade, which probably wont happen but I would rather have the spare slots and not need them than the other way around, as ive got damn annoyed at the current matx board only having one spare slot on it, which is covered by the 2 slot gpu.

Can anyone see any glaring problems? Cooler is chosen purely since I kinda like it and can add my own silent fans to it - While I may oc it a bit, I will not be pushing it super high, as noise levels etc are more important to me. Recommend me something better ;)

Any part can be replaced - Nvidia/Intel preference, red/black colour scheme by choice to match everything else, but its in a box with no window so...
Budget is whatever it ends up costing, but we are going mid range, not high end as I need to save for my Main upgrade ~q4

Thanks guys, and gals :D

yea, but there isnt a lot of the matx boards yet, and in the MM I doubt anyone will be selling them :P

edit: but that gigabyte board is probably better

Last thought is the old R9 280X suggestion, cheaper, come in red_black etc and trades blows with a 770.

The 20g tube of paste is mainly since I need to replace my now old and nearly run out tube of mx-2. But, since the cooler comes with paste I will probably skip it for now.

I was leaning towards a 280 or 290 due to cheap prices atm, but my friend gave me a good deal on his 770 so I cant beat it for the price.

Thanks for taking the time Stulid, puts my mind at rest so I can picking up parts as I can find them.

If noise levels are important to you and you're possibly considering SLI, I'd make sure you get a case with 5 PCI slots and the Gigabyte G1 Sniper mobo so you can have a slot between the cards, otherwise you're going to have to run the top graphics card's fan at very high, noisy speeds to keep it cool.

@stulid: Really? Thats a decent amount for a free tube :D I like to have a good amount on hand these days as when I would only get small tubes, I would get annoyed at how often I would think I had plenty, then need to re do a WB on something and realise I only have half the amount and then have to wait for the postman :(

@ zenf: Does the Sniper come in matx flavour? I cant spot one from a quick scan of z87/97?

Case does have 5 pci slots, matx board which has that many, and is nice though...

Scratch the SLI reasoning. Its probably very unlikely to happen as the 770 will be dated by the time I decide to upgrade and adding another one in wont be as good as getting a better single card. I just want slots rather than not having them, hence not going ITX
