Slightly over and still no with postage but is it all compatible? and do you think i could be doing better with his money?

Oh and is there anything i have forgotten? Need a complete rig setup, keyboard mouse n all, inc monitor.

Thanks guys n gals

i would change the cpu to a 3800+x2 becuse it has the same amount of cache and will easily overlcock to 2.2ghz (same as 4200+) with 2.6ghz usually being easily attainable. also i would get rid of the x1800gto and change it for Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB. its ten quid more than the gto but would absolutley wipe the floor with it. plus with the change of these 2 components should easily keep within your 700 quid budget

Cool thanks for the advice, i have changed it now, however will i really need the better Geil RAM do you guys think? as it will be hardly OC'd at all as he would not know how to sort out any issues should tings go a bit bizzarre, could he get away with the OCuk value ram? He wants to be able to use it as a good gaming rig also.

yep u should be allrite. i have heard goood things about the ocuk value ram anyway. so i rekon u could get away with it. by the way though if u are going to overlock i would definately consider getting a new cpu cooler. one of the best and also cheapest would be the arctic cooling 64 pro

AM2 really worth it though? Read so much about the small performance step over 939, then which mobo? I would definately consider it, just i dont know that much about AM2 setups.

at the moment there is no performance difference between 939 and am2 plus 939 had more mature and stable mobo. and am2 isnt necasarrily furtureproof because i heard the next generation of amd chips may be on another platform

Not even because of the much higher RAM frequencies?

not at the moment no. i had to make the decision wether to go AM2 or 939.and i choose 939. then when the new AMD chips come out upgrade then.. or go conroe at a later date. ;)

Ok this is slightly over and has a fairly small hard drive but you get Conroe and good component parts. The motherboard is supposedly not great for overclocking but it ought to allow at least some.

Thanks guys for your input, and semi-pro waster that looks an immense spec within the budget, will put it to him and see if he is willing to give a little on the HD or the budget lol
