Hi - I'm thinking of getting a similar spec machine to paul_64l.

If anyone or paul_64l has a similar setup could they let me know:

1. If they like it?
2. Would you change anything?
3. Is it noisey?

I'd like a machine that was as quiet as possible but also want good performance for the cost.
Here's my proposed spec - all comments welcome please

Intel C2D E6600
Asus P5N-E 650i or the Gigabyte DS3P (I still haven't decided)
8800GTX 768MB or a Asus GeForce 8800 GTS HTDP 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI to save some money
2GB x OCZ DDR2-850 or the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300C3 (Someone said the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300C3 is the same as Ballistix PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit???? will get thsi confirmed before buying)
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty
2x 320gb 72.1000 16mb raid0 (I already have these)
Corsair hx 620w (Is this quiet? Would a different PSU be better?)

Antec Nine Hundred
Scythe Ninja
Noctua NC-U6

Thanks for any help/comments

looks fine, motherboard wise the gigabyte seems the preference at the moment.

depending on the make of disk, drive coolers to reduce the noise, if their too noticeable.

maybe swap the sound card for the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Soundcard - OEM.

So it's a thumbs up then?

I was worried about the PSU being noisey - are the Corsair HX's generally considered quiet?

Thanks again for the help/advice

I heard those corsair psu's are really quiet ..i'm thinking of getting rid of my 700w ocz gamextreme (too noisy) for one of these also.

Great, thanks for the tips and the link - it was a good read.

I'm just not 100% about the RAM now, is it definite that there is no difference between the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300C3 667Mhz and Ballistix PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit?

wouldnt say there was NO difference, would advise checking the memory forum out, seen very good reports of the 5300, if you can afford the 8500 go for it, if not i'm sure the 5300 will do a decent job and not let the system down.
