looking to build a new pc soon. want your advice on this setup and anything that might need changing. thanks very much. my budget is around £800

Youve bought tripple channel memory but AMD only takes dual channel

Also that CPU cooler can block the ram slots on some mobo's try the fennir.

Might be worth looking at the 955 black CPU if you want to overclock.

Or even the X3 940 black is a very good chip and a bit cheaper.

i would like an i7 build with nvidia. but it seems to be the more expensive option. the amd/ati route seems to be the more value for money. i would be mainly using the rig for enoding/editing hd videos. along with gaming too.
i would like an ssd mainly for the OS, but seems too expensive for my budget

i thought the am3 motherboards take ddr3 triple channel ?

They only have four ram slots so I guess not...
 
Also what res do you use? If it's high I certainly wouldn't go for a 512MB card as sugested above, that's only worthwhile at 1280x1024 or lower, otherwise go for at least a 1GB card.
 
the res i use atm is 1680X1050. thats on my lappy. i have a 22 monitor as well that supports the same res.

ive been using a laptop for around 4 years with no access desktop. but the laptop is restrictive as i came to find out the other day
