Hi all,

This is my shopping list for a reasonable gaming build for a friend, what do you think?

Looking to overclock the i3 in the future with an aftermarket cooler (suggestions for >£35 air cpu block welcomed!), but for now I think stock clock and cooler should suffice.

Is the motherboard the right choice or would a cheaper one be just as good, then maybe spend more on a CPU? Same with graphics, shouldn't be overkill or not powerful enough for new games.

£470 is pretty much the absolute limit, as I still have to get a decent monitor and keep it under ~£570 (monitor suggestions also welcomed, but I have one in mind from another source).

Have a HDD and DVD ect.

Thanks for any feedback!

only the K model processors are clockable with the 1155 chipset.

case wise have a look at the BitFenix Shinob, or the antec 100/300.

what sort of games is he looking to play, and what size monitor/gaming resolution you thinking of ?

Probably should have put 'she' in there somewhere.. Gamer girl ***.

Will change processor to a K model, thanks! edit: which processor do you recommend?

Looking at a decent "23, as she likes to watch films ect too. So 1920 x 1080 probably.

Didn't really look into cases much, that one looked decent and priced reasonably, as well as good reviews. Will check again.
Thanks.

what sort of games is your friend looking to play, as depending on your friends gaming, don't think the original spec'd 6770 will be up to gaming at 1920 with the latest games.

came up with the following, slightly over budget, but that could be changed going for a 6850 instead of the 6870 (which is on special offer at the moment).

only spec'd 4gb of memory, cos the money for 8gb is better used on the updated cpu/gfx card, and give the spec a better balance, this could be changed if they arn't looking to play the latest games.

couldn't really fit a 3rd party cooler in with the budget, so will need to get one before overclocking too much.

Excellent! Thanks for your help!

I doubt she will play much in the way of very demanding games, but things like Dragon Age and Wow, games like that, so a 6850 will probably be sufficient.

if the 6870 is still on special offer when you buy, stick with that, just depends on the price difference and budget allowance really.
