Hi everyone,

finally decided (or almost) what I would like to get...

Any comments on the below spec are much appreciated.

What Im 100% certain of are
2500K
F3 1TB (already have one)
128GB M4 SSd (already got it)
Optiarc 7260
XFX 850W Black Edition
MSI 6950 Frozer III

75-90% sure of:
8GB Vengance LP 1.35V (and get them to CL7 I hope)
H100 cooler + 2x GT AP-15
Corsair Carbide 500R + TY-140 for exhaust and intake (got one Noctua NF-S12B as well)
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4

The idea is to get a nice stable 4.8GHz overclock and almost silent case (at least from 2m away where I sleep).

As Im thinking of H100 and have extra space round te mem sockets I am not so sure if other Mems wouldn't be better. I would love to have 1600 CL7 or 1866 CL8...

Is H100 not an overkill for the 4.8GHz? Maybe I could shave a bit and get the H80?

Im not entirely sure about the mobo either... Maybe a Gen3 Extreme4 or MSI Z68A-GD65-G3 would be a better choice?

Or should I just leave PCI-E 3.0 out of my mind as the next upgrade would only be another 6950 to CX them..?

Any thoughts are always of help!

Thanks!

if your only thinking of xfire then the gigabyte ud3 is £100, if your ok with the price of the one you listed then go for the asrock gen 3.

have you thought about going air cooling rather than the water type, could slow fan speed down if you leave it running over night.

don't think its overkill for 4.8, but the h80 should do just as well.

memory wise, its not really that important to the overclocks as it used to be.

Would UD3 give me the same chance of high oc? This case has a nice space for the 240mm rad up on the top so I thought it would work better than push-pulling the H80 towards the back...
Id rather not limit myself to xfire only, who knows what nVidia are going to realease in a years time... although by this time Id still be happy with my 2x6950..

Silver Arrow is OoS everywhere :/

depends what sort of o/c your looking for, no reason that i've seen it shouldn't give you a decent one.

the mobo is xfire & sli , i said xfire based on your 6950 listing , so sorry for the confusion.

fair enough on the cooling, but depending on your budget you might be better with a proper water cooling solution.

Id rather give a WC a miss now, still want to keep it quiet and cool as much as possible.
It wont be sitting overnight a lot, but laterat night it should not disturb others.

I hope to get as good chip as I had for a friend, now probs with 4.8GHz @ 1.35V

Mobo is the biggest pain now...

Just so you have a reference point. I have H100 with the 2 stocks fans as Push and 2 Akasa Apache as Pull, running 2500k @ 4.81GHz (1.37v) and my max temps are 68C under prime. Idle about 29-30C, ambient 21C.

Still cant make up my mind re mobo...
I dont need PCIE 3, nor the extra 2 USB 3.0 from the Extreme4, but need a board that will o/c well and has extra power for it... any Asus worth considering?
