Spec & Check Please

Just watched that Stulid. I do like the Window and go faster stripes. Will my 3.5" internal car reader fit in this?

I don't think you can remove the 3.5" hotswap bay part of the case, so some sort of 5.25" drive bay adapter would be needed for the card reader.

Thanks for the info honosuseri.

That case is nice but nearly £90?

The Viper is out of stock :-(

You're welcome, sorry it was such a huge post.

For SLi and to do serious overclocking you really want a full tower case, a decent £130+ ATX mobo and a hefty twin or tri fan cooler if not watercooling. Remember the silicon lottery, just because you want the CPU to do 5Ghz that doesn't mean it can no matter how much time and cash you throw at it. You should manage a 1Ghz OC quite easily on a decent £30ish heatsink and that's not to be sniffed at.

As you get free P&P you can just snipe parts on offer individually if you wanted perhaps? I saw 8GB of the Viper for £30 (£20 off) on a today only offer recently. I did mention that Geil leggera RAM earlier but it does clash with the mobo if that matters, if the case has no window I guess it doesn't really matter. 16GB of the Geil Black Dragon used to be £60 now it's £80 after checking, prices really do fluctuate so keep your eyes open for bargains.

The K2 mount doom is a very good air cooler and comes up at £50 on offer quite a lot, the Bitfenix Shinobi case often goes on sale too for less than £50, the Corsair 300R is another good alternative. You don't seem happy to pay close to let alone £100 for a case. So you are looking at midrange midi towers, these don't support the large CLC coolers like the H100, the H60 isn't the best CLC but does fit any chassis. So a good £30-50 aircooler is the best option and value but gives you RAM headaches. I'd favour "making my own H60" than buying the retail units if I "needed" the CLC solution and was on a tight budget.

How much you spend and how you balance the cash to what it is all finally styled like is down to you. Hopefully you know what to look for now and how to spot bargains. I do really look forward to seeing what you settle on :)

Will that Viper Ram sit under the 612s OK?

Should do.

I can get a finger between the bottom of the 612S fan and the top of my Gskill Ares RAM, the Viper black mamba heatspreader extends 1.3cm above the actual RAM PCB.

You can also place the two sticks in the 2nd+4th RAM slot (counting away from the CPU) to help spacing.

Im not set on that ram yet. Wish I had bought the 16gb they had on sale at the beginning of the week. The case and Cooler are fairly settled upon at this time

You dont actually need RAM with a speed rating that high, the gains in performance on Ivybridge are very small.

Yes.

It is a shame there isn't a low profile RAM choice in Red anymore, there use to be a Kingston HyperX kit in a Red finish.

Just seen the Bitfenix Raider but it seems it has slight problems with longer GPU's. Would it be ok with my SLI'd 460s on the Maximus IV Gene Z?

The case will take those cards easily once the middle HDD cage is removed, it has 380mm of room for them then.

It has 174mm of room for coolers also.

Just been doing a bit more reading up about the Maximus Iv Gene Z. Im kind of worried now about how tight my 2 460's will be in SLI and the resulting temps. Also it looks like the 612s will be tight against the top GPU?

You need to ask someone with the board, the only person I can think of is 8pack.

Or google the board and the heatsink together and a few hits come back of it fitting.
