Please could some of you give this a once over before I commit? I've got two old PCI-E NVidia 7300 graphics cards that I'll be using for multiple monitors, which should be sufficient as I don't do any gaming. The machine will be pretty much only be used for running a number of virtual machines (VMWare workstation, not ESXi). I highly doubt I'll be doing any overclocking. Will the power supply be adequate?

I believe the i5 is better than the Phenom II without over clocking (the 2500k can easily be clocked to over 4.5ghz) and here is a link to show this.

I only chose the PSU as a personal preference. I think 16GB of ram will be overkill too? could save your self £50 there.
 
2 of those work out at £80 though, rather than the £54 for the 2TB he's spec'd...

This is the spec I'd suggest if you can stretch to it... Slightly cheaper PSU - still does the job. Still got 16GB of RAM, which you could cut down to 8 if you wanted, but cheaper cost but still does the job just as well!

Also i7 - so best processor you have around!

Only actual issue is that all the mobo's spec'd in this thread (including your own) don't support SLI for your two GPU's...

You dont need too much CPU for test/lab virtualisation. The areas you get most bang for your buck are RAM and disk (IO and Space - VMs and snapshots like lots of space).
 
Thanks for this. An Intel processor is certainly something to think about, as it's probably better supported by the various virtualisation products.

Both of these new specs mention a 500w PSU - will this be adequate for a system with two SATA HDDs (essential - they'll be set up as RAID1), two graphics cards, 16GBs RAM, etc?
 
Not sure about the policy about this, but I'm bumping this up.

I'm hoping to buy this in the next week or so, but I'm still unsure about the PSU. Will 500w be adequate for this specification?
