Planning on o/cing the CPU to 4GHz. Will the mobo and CPU cooler be good enough? Want a 850W PSU as I might get another 4870 in the future...

Any advice would be more than welcome.

Cheers

For PSU, you could go with the Seasonic M12 Modular 700W. Which would power two 4870's easily (480W peak usage).
Also if you do plan to go crossfire you really want to go with x38/x48 rather than the p45 as it limits the crossfire.
Also i would change the CPU cooler to something more "high end", like thia: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...=Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)
But main thing if crossfiring go for either x38 or x48.

I saw this in a post in the mobo section on p5q

I noticed very little, if any difference between PCIe 8x to PCIe 16x. PCIe 16x isn't fully saturated so 8x is ample imo at least with the 3870x2's in crossfire. 21k in 3d06 is nothing to be sniffed at and seems inline with current x38/x48 boards so no throttling I could find.

Still think i need a X** mobo?

Might go for the better cooler and lower 700W PSU like you say...

Anyone comment on the mobo or even the case?

Right, decided to change what im getting!! Decided, seeing as I have the ££, im going to get the 4870 X2 - so keeping the P5Q board. Getting the Noctua NH-U12P as recommended as it kicks arse in reviews ive looked at (thanks!).

Was just wondering what wattage PSU I need for this system (see first post + 4870 X2) and which is the best, in peoples opinion, on the market at the moment? Do i need an additional 8 pin PCIE cable for the gfx that isnt present on some PSU's for example?

Okay final spec check for me?? any changes ppl would make? Remember its going to 4GHz (hopefully) and I have all peripherals (incl. a 24" monitor) and HDDs.

Was thinkin about the deluxe for that exact reason - but seen ppl with their pro's reaching 4ghz same as with the deluxe so thought it wasnt needed.

All the more reason to splash out and get the Deluxe! :)

And don't forget you also get a little fan for the heat pipe cooling, should you ever go under water!

thnx for the advice but you too late anyway!! Ordered last night.

Going to be a busy w/e for me!

How much do you think my old system is worth without hdds or any peripherals but with a 19" vx924 viewsonic monitor? Want to sell it like...(case is a sonata II with a relatively new akasa 500W PSU)
