Is it any good? Any suggestions on what to change/replace? Or would it be better to wait till the next lot of graphics cards and cpu come out in a couple of months

Are you going to overclock??

What resolution are you playing your games at?? Unless you are playing games at very high resolution I won't go any further than 1950pro/xt.

Sod waiting for better value hardware to arise. You'll effectively be waiting forever. :)

The rig looks good, though I would replace the RAM with something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-124-CS. Much better bang-for-buck, and also overclocks very well if need be.

About the graphics card, if you are doing a bit of gaming I'd say pay the bit extra and go for an 8800GTS as a way to futureproof the machine nicely. For general use, the X1950 Pro, of even a 7600GT would be more than OK.

Although I've built my own machines a couple of times now I've never overclocked them. I must admit that I'm tempted but a bit overwhelmed by it all.

Currently play in 1280x800 but that's only because thats the native resolution on my monitor. If this monitor can handle higher I'll go higher.

For the graphics card I thought buy the X1950 first then in 6 months time look at the market again when there's a bigger range of DX10 cards out there. Is the 8800GTS really worth the extra money?

I'm having the same trouble deciding right now, finger hovering over the buy button and all.

An 8800 would be spot on if you were running at a higher res right now, but for the moment there aren't really any games out there (bar a certain few that don't run as they should on 800GTX systems) that aren't going to challenge a 1950xt at your current res.

Go with your head and do what you planned originally, in 6 months or so there'll be more DX10 cards around (including ATi's own DX10 card.. hopefully).

I think I've just convinced myself aswell :D 1950xt it is.

But what about the 50 extra FPS in CS Source?! :p

That is sweet but seriously are you going to notice the difference??

a 1950pro is already capable of 80fps+ average in CSS (just guessing here do correct me if I'm wrong 1950pro owners), a 50fps increase to 130 isn't gonna make gaming experience any better and is only noticeable when you have Fraps on.

Besides there isn't a single DX10 card in sight yet to tell how 8800 will really perform in DX10 games.

lol, I was joking. CS:S is hardly GPU intensive. :)
