Hey guys,

Am new to the forums - hope it's okay to run this by you! Any criticism is much appreciated! Budget is 600-650 sterling.

Many thanks,

I wouldn't buy the ATI card. I recommend the Nvidia.

The Nvidia what? If he wants to spend that much money, the 4850 is far and away the best card. If he is happy to spend £60 more, the 4870 outperforms the GTX260 in most tests at that price point. Unless you are looking to get the best single card performance and are buying a GTX280 for more than double the price of the 4850, ATI is the way to go at the moment.

the 4870 outperforms the GTX260 in most tests at that price point.

the 260 vs the 4870 according to toms hardware the average and total FPS the 260 wins, not to mention they both overclock and the 260GTX is 10 pounds cheaper....

for me its a mix between 260vs4870

and at OP, get the modular 620w corsair power supply, i kicked myself for not getting a modular power supply, will not ever buy a non-modular one again!

Will look for a modular psu, was wondering if the mobo is good (easy to upgrade onto) and all fits/is compatable? Will take a look at that gfx card when I get home.
Thanks a lot for your help so far guys.

Why buy Arctic Silver? The Freezer Pro comes with MX-2 pre-applied which its as good, some say better, than AS.

So can you post an udated list cutters? I am looking at exactly the same system only with an E8500 as the processor. I am therefore looking at your post eagerly waiting for these guys reply's. Did you decide on a GPU only I like the sapphire hd 4850 toxic but am open to suggestions....Looks good for the money though. ;)

Looks like the same card but more expensive to me!

One other thing I wanted to ask - is this motherboard suitable/easy for me to wack in another 4850+HDD within the next year?

here we are so far lads:

I am not the right person to ask but going by the spec no crossfire means no to two graphics cards I think crossfire....
And can anyone give us some more advice on these 4850 graphics cards and possibly whether nvidia would be better?
What OS you using cutters? You will have to keep us posted as to how the build goes mate ..

- Support ATI CrossFireXTM technology, up to Quad CrossFireX

Will be using XP on this PC. The motherboard does support xfire - was more a question of if the case was of an appropriate size and if the motherboard gpu connecters were well spaced! I will do - going to wait another day or two before I order just to make sure nobody finds any massive faults with it.

Yes I was looking at a different board m8 lol crossfire it is lol !! not a bad spec for the money though is it? Do you prefer the quad core then? I cant believe how similar it is to the one I was umming and arrring about.. . I have read that the antec case is big enough for most stuff. Did you say you changed the power supply to modular?

Yeah the one listed there is modular. The quad core for me I think - most of the games that i play are mmorpgs and not that intensive and sometimes I am running multiple clients as I am a Gamemaster thus having multiple cores for multi tasking seems the way to go for me. This spec seems to be my best bet and the one I am going to go for - will order from overclockers on wednesday. It's a shame I didn't find these forums sooner and didn't contribute my knowledge but the postage costs arn't that expensive ;).
