I would look at changint the mobo like others have said, and also change the ram to the OCZ one its the same price for C8 ram.

Familiarity - My only PC build thus far was a 920 on a Gigabyte UD5, so when looking to build my mate a PC this week, i3 and Gigabyte seemed the logical way forward. It helps that they're also one of the best overclocking combos out there too of course

I was planning on recycling my old Xfi. However...

The 5870 is a 2-slot card, and so once installed in the primary PCIe16 slot, it covers one PCI slot entirely, and obstructs the other.

So I need a sound solution for another slot.

I have a small slot, above the graphics card - PCIx4 I think - looks like it could take one of these:

And I have two PCIe16 slots, although I don't know if I'm meant to install a sound card in those - or whether they're even available.

I'll be doing an order tomorrow, because I need some cable extensions - so any feedback/experience you guys have would be very helpful.

In the meantime, I'll be trying out the onboard sound.

TBH unless you have very expensive headphones it's hard to notice the difference.

Can I ask why you got an i7 if you don't think you'll overclock? I would've thought an AMD system would've made more sense :confused:
