I have picked what I would like to buy but it is slightly over budget. is there anything I can cut back on without sacrificing too much performance?

  • Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle £417.98
  • Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £46.99
  • Sony Optiarc AD-7260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) £13.99
  • Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply £59.98
  • Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM £48.49
  • Total £587.43

Also, will these parts all work ok? any dos or donts?
Im going to get a graphics card at a later date after I next get paid.

Setup will work fine.

You could save by buying the parts separately and overclocking yourself and possible get a cheaper case.

The PSU will be able to handle an overclocked rig, say 4GHz CPU and Radeon 5870.

i did price it up separately, but it seemed to me they have not added on a huge amount for the overclocking and as im no expert, I thought it could be good to get the pros to do it.

it breaks down like this:

  • Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) £146.86
  • Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
  • Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3) £37.99
  • Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £86.94
  • Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £46.99
  • Sony Optiarc AD-7260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) £13.99
  • Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply £59.98
  • Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM £48.49
  • Total £554.23

what gpu do u think u might get, and do u plan on sli/crossfire at all, as this will determine the PSU u would need.

if you really want to cut down the price abit, a lower psu (depending on gpu) might work, as well as a slightly cheaper case like the coolermaster elite

not a lot else u can reduce the price really, doign the overclock urself will shave a few quid off, but if you not that confident in overclocking, then i think getting the bundle will be a good idea

not really sure yet on the gpu. had enough to think about with the chip etc :p

I wont have a huge budget and am not hugely informed on what is good. Speculative budget of ~£80 enough to get some thing ok?

£80 would get u something okish, something like the 5670, or for a little more the 5750.

nothing really on the nvidia side for that price, closest is the GTS250, but i think i would prefer the 5750 for a simlar price

neither are that power hungry, so a 650w would be wasted.

the corsair CX400 would save u abit of money and should be sufficent for that

I also Have an Maudio 1010lt soundcard that I want to run on this pc. will that draw much power? im tempted to go for a cheaper psu but dont want to be limited later when it comes to gpu and other addition's

400w is generally fine for most mid range gpus.

obviously, u'll want abit more power if you are running one of the power hungry top end gpus, or running an overclocked i7 that uses abit more power

if you limited in funds, then its unlikly u'll be able to upgrade to a top end gpu that will need more power.

and if u had the money, u'll have the money for a better psu too :P
