Hi all,

I’m planning a new PC mainly for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (4K + VR mainly with Valve Index and possibly the upcoming Frame). I’m aiming for a quiet, stable system rather than heavy overclocking and just wanted some opinions before I go ahead.

Current spec idea:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
  • PNY NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB Overclocked Triple Fan (Blackwell)
  • ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero motherboard
  • 64GB DDR5-6000 EXPO memory CL30
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 420mm AIO
  • Fractal North XL case
  • Corsair RM1000e ATX 3.1 PSU
Does this look like a good balanced build for Flight Sim and VR? Anything you would change?

Thanks

I'd check the PCI lane sharing split on the Hero suits your needs. I think using the M.2_2/3 drops your PCIEX16_1 down to x8 speed or similar.

I've gone for a similar build but went with the Crossfire Glacial as it has a better lane sharing for what I want. Plus it looks awesome.

The 5080 is terrible value. 5070ti or 9700xt is much better value for money.

At 4K I'd stick with the 5080.

If just gaming I'd drop to the 9800x3d too. Don't think you'll see any benefit having the additional non x3d cores on the 9950x3d cpu.
+1 to this.

I'm curious about going with the PNY card. The CPU saving could net you an Asus Tuf or even get you the Noctua Edition which could match nicely with the North and get you more of that "quiet, stable system" you're looking for.
